Some of my favorite childhood memories I have were when...

We use to go to the above camps with my mom and dad. The camps were owned by the company that my Dad use to work for. They would rent them out to the employee for a good price. We went quite often through the summer and fall months. Sometimes it was just for a few days and other times we would stay a week. They were located up in the woods in the middle of nowhere and we use to have to travel over two hours on an old dirt road which was barely wide enough for two cars. When we met a car we would have to pull over so they could pass by. By the time we got there everything would be coated in dust. We would sing all the way up. Sometimes we would stop at one of the lakes and have a picnic. I remember one time when I was six or so we went off the road and over an embankment which was quite a drop. Luckily nobody was hurt and the car wasn't even damaged. A truck came along and pulled us out and we continued on our way. Cars where made a lot better back then. Dad always like to get Cabin 6 because it was over by the woods and the most private one. When we went there we always had lots of people to hang out with because I had plenty of cousins who went there too plus we would always meet some new friends. There was a big lake with row boats. We could go rowing around the lake, fishing or go swimming. It was so much fun. There was a canteen that we use to run back and forth to and buy penny candies. They had swings and teeter totters. They also had horseshoe pits and badminton and volleyball nets. There was always something to do. If we weren't doing any of those things we were catching frogs. lol In the evening the adults would gather in one camp and do their thing and all the kids would be in another camp hanging out. We use to cook pizza in the propane ovens they had. I continued to go there right up to my mid twenties. The camps are still there and I was thinking I would like to go back there again sometime. It has been a lot of years since I was there. They are open to everybody now but you have to book ahead because they are always full especially on the weekends. There is a paved road going up there now and it only takes 45 mins from my hometown. Not like it use to be back in my childhood days. So what was one of your favorite places to go with your family when you were a child?

I really had to do a double take when I saw this picture! We used to rent a cabin along Milford Bay, which is on Lake Muskoka here in Ontario. I believe that there were a couple more cabins, but they were little white ones like that. And we'd go for a week every summer. Like you, we'd have a lot of fun and make memories that have lasted us a lifetime. We went back to that area when we were on our honeymoon, but the White Village had been bought out and didn't look as quaint or anything like it did when I was a child. I'll be that even the arcade was gone!

@Happy2BeMe but we feel sad because we are already orphans, and all that are left are pictures and tee memories.

Those are good times too. We spent lot of times with our cousins when we were young but now that we are older I have not seen most of them in many years.

We never had camping though as Girls scouts we also experienced camping by the woods. Though, father would sometimes take out the dining table and chairs at our lawn for our early dinner. Those were one of the so memorable times in my childhood.

It's great that the camp is still there. So many disappear eventually.
