One Thing That Was Torture For Me As A Kid & Teen

I have a great Mom and I did have a wonderful childhood with many good memories, but one thing that really frustrated me as a youngster was when my Mom would take my sister and I to the Clothes Department store to buy clothes. What made it so tortuous was that she would place me in one dressing room and place my sister in the next door dressing room and if we were shopping for say Jeans, she would go out and bring back like 10 or more Jeans to try on. Or if we were shopping for dresses for school or church or a party, she would do the same thing. And, she would make us try on each piece she brought to us, to make sure the item fit perfectly and looked right on us. And this could take an hour or longer depending on the situation. So, my sister and I would sit in our underwear in the dressing room and just twiddle our thumbs as we would wait on her bringing clothes or returning them to racks. Sometimes, the clothes sales girls would help take back the clothes that didn't fit to the racks. My sister and I still will mention it to this day how we hated trying on clothes at department stores. Today, I will buy most of my clothes online and if I have to buy a clothing piece at a store, I will have only 2 or 3 items at the most and be in and out of the dressing room in minutes. I shouldn't complain because she meant the best for us, but it just seriously turned us both off about clothes stores!

I can just imagine you impatiently waiting! Mothers did put us through some trials sometimes didn't they?

Yes, it was almost like my sister and I were her "live" Barbie Dolls, who she liked to dress, lol.

I think she could have come up with a better system. I today's world you don't leave kids alone in a dressing room. I don't remember my mother taking me to buy clothes....don't think she did - I hate shopping anyway!

I agree, times have changed and you shouldn't leave kids in dressing rooms.

My Mom could sew too and when my sister and I were real young , up to age 5 or 6, she made lots of our clothes and hers, but later when we got bigger, that is when she stopped sewing and started buying our clothes.
