Favorite Female Lyricists #10 - Carole King

Since I'm counting down the men, it's only fair to give the women their props, hence this Favorite Female Lyricists series. As with the men, these are not necessarily the best, or most popular, but the ones that I listen to the most. #10, however, is one of, if not the, best, and the only true legend in this countdown: Carole King. The most successful female songwriter of all time, Carole King wrote, or co-wrote, 118 Billboard Hot 100 hits from 1955-1999, and 61 UK hits. The four-time Grammy Winner's classic album, Tapestry, spent a whopping 15 weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200, spending a total of six years on that chart. King is in the Songwriters and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame, and is the first female recipient of the Library of Congress Gershwin Award. Just how good is Carole King? Do you like songs such as "The Loco-Motion," or "Up on the Roof," or "Pleasant Valley Sunday?" They were all written by, or co-written by her. And there are 115 others I could name, but I don't want to keep you here all day. My parents had Tapestry on 8-Track. As a kid, I played that thing to death, and I've liked her ever since. I can't think of a better way to start this series. Besides, how could I leave off the woman that wrote "Jazzman?" (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I want to mention her big #1 hit "It's Too Late" from "Tapestry." Neil Sedaka's hit "Oh Carol" was named after her as they once dated.

@teamfreak16 Haha. You saying this reminded me of Vince when we used to listen to the radio a lot more. A song would come on and he'd say 'that's my absolute favourite. I love that song'. Ten minutes later, same words, different song. An hour later, ditto. He has a lot of favourite songs!

"Tapestry" was a gotta have when I was in high school, long ago and far away. I think I feel the earth move under my feet just thinking about it.

She is a phenomenal writer and performer. I can't think of any woman writer/singer I like better. The special and album she did with James Taylor was great!
