Free for a Week -- at Least from the Dentist's Chair -- after Watching a Machine Make My Crown

My Dentist with Her Camera and Computer Showing her Photo of my Teeth. T

After spending three afternoons a row in the dentist's office, I'm really looking forward to my freedom. Of course, that means catching up on undone chores. I have a blog post to write before my next and last appointment a week from tomorrow. I need to start working on taxes. And I have to disable my Google Adsense Plugin and replace my ads straight from Google on three more blogs before April. At least I can do those things at home in my computer chair instead of in a dentist's chair. Actually my dentist is also my friend. We used to attend a Bible study in her home for two years. In the photo she is holding the camera she uses to send a picture to the computer that designs the program that makes my crowns right in her office. My teeth aren't really the color they are in the photo. They just make the picture that way for contrast. Does your dentist use this technology to make crowns yet? Or does your dentist still have a lab make them? I watched my crown being made today. It's fascinating to watch the machine at work. The dentist can make the crown while I wait. First, she prepares the tooth to receive the crown. Then she takes the pictures of the teeth which the computer needs. Then I normally go back to the waiting room with my book until the machine finishes making the crown. After the dentist has the crown, I go back into the treatment room and she puts the crown on. This way everything gets done in one day and I avoid having a temporary crown for a week until the crown comes back from a lab. I also avoid making an impression in green goo. Which way does your dentist get the crowns made? Have you ever seen one made?

My dentist used to use plaster of paris to create the impressions manually and I would be told to get back after a week. I have lost a couple of those forgetting to be careful while eating hard stuff. In fact I will not go back but live with those stubs I am minus several teeth but luckily when I smile nothing shows. I have no desire to replace lost teeth. I shudder at the thought of sitting with the dentist. I think you should enjoy this week doing happy things but if what you have planned to do with blogs and all gives you happiness who am I to tell you not to do it

Dark Cloud Over market Parking Lot
Be careful. An infected tooth can kill you if not taken care of. I wish I could do happy things, but in a way, it's a happy thing to work on the chores I have to do to get them from hanging over my head, like this dark cloud over the parking lot when I left the dentist's office yesterday after an afternoon rain. It poured while in was in the office.

@Morleyhunt That's pretty young to get them. Was it difficult for you to accept that you needed them?

My dentist still does it the oldfashioned way... green goo and all. So right now I have a temporary bridge in my mouth, waiting for the lab to make the permanent one. Hope it fits better than the temp.

@bagarad Thanks. Actually, it's an 8-tooth bridge, and I felt it move up yesterday. It actually seems a better fit now. Go figure.

What I don't like about the temps is that they seem to fall out a lot. Hope your crown is a perfect fit.

I haven't seen a dentist make crowns . Now new technologies make light work of making crowns and people who have problem with teeth suffer less pain than before.

I so agree with you. I'd hate to go back to what dentistry was sixty years ago.

It was. See the photo I posted below on Judy Evans' comment. It's like watching sculpture made with water, though that might be something stronger than water. I'll have to ask when I go in for what I hope is my last crown this afternoon.

I am having a crown put in next visit. I'm not sure how it will be done. He hasn't mentioned having to return after this one visit.

If he has a machine, see if you can watch it work. It's fascinating. It sculpts the crown from a block of porcelain before your eyes.

Crown in Process of Creation at Dental Office
Here is a photo of my crown in process. The machine shoots water at the porcelain block from both sides to shape the crown. It's hard to get a good photo because of all the water in the way. I have some videos, but I haven't processed them yet. I'm thinking of writing a hub about this.

@bagarad It's amazing what they can do now. I'm sure people would be interested in a hub about the process.

She is a delightful person. She's from Brazil. She is an intense and caring person. Yesterday she told me how she met her husband who is from California. I told her to talk about something while she worked to get my mind off what she was doing. She asked what I wanted her to talk about so I asked her to tell my about meeting her husband. I also know her husband, so the story was very interesting to me.
