Is it possible to lose money at myLot?

United States
March 24, 2017 7:19am CST
Yes, it certainly is possible for me and I would assume for others in my position. No, I am not gambling. I am not giving or loaning money to myLot members. I am not buying things from the advertisers. Then how do I lose money here? It's simple - I do not have an unlimited internet plan. Satellite internet is my only option. I have said many times I live in the boonies and in my world there is no cable. That's right, satellite TV is what most of us boonie people have - you can ride through the area and see one, two and even three satellite dishes on homes. We have two - one for TV and one for internet. I pay $80 a month to HughesNet. For that money I get a certain amount of data time and when that is used it does switch over to bonus time. But that bonus time gets used fast. In simple terms by the third week of my billing period I've gone through all my data time. What happens then? Two things, first if you know where to look on their website you can find 'free bonus time' which also goes very quickly. After that I can either buy more time or they cut the speed. So that fourth week means I am working at almost backward speeds. Everything I do online takes two or three times longer that last week of the billing cycle. It is frustrating to say the least. So, the answer to my question at least for me - is yes ... it is possible to lose money at myLot. Photo from Pixabay

So everything you earn on myLot is used up by the possibility of posting on myLot and earning something. A no-win situation.

If I bought more data that would use up what I make. But what it eats up that is worse is time. But I am not here to make money so it's up to me to continue here or leave and have better speed all month.

@AbbyGreenhill would you be able to go somewhere nearby that you could use their free wifi like a library etc?

@shaggin I am on and off the computer all day - the last place I want to be is in a library. Not even sure our local one has that available. This is the country. We have no coffee shops or things like that.

Gosh that does seem to be a huge amount to have to pay for your internet Is there no other provider available there? I don't have that problem. I have unlimited wi-fi here at home which I use for all of my devices (desktop, tablet and smartphone) and I pay only $32 approx per month.

@AbbyGreenhill Yes it is good indeed and the service never fails either. I changed four years ago as my previous provider was more expensive and often there was no service either. Very annoying as it always happened when I needed it most. It is sad that you have no alternative there.

@mysdianait What I had prior started at 50 for unlimited - it was a little 'stick' I put i the computer. When they upgraded me to the new model and the 50 became limited. I switched to 80 a month plan and was getting bills for over 100 - so I updated to 100 plan and was paying over 200 a month as time went on. The last few bills I got (this was Verizon) were over 400 so I switched to satellite

If there was another option I would be using it. I only use a tablet a short time in the evening so most of my data is used thru the computer. Unlimited for 32 is a good price.

Yikes that would be awful! I have Never heard of HughesNet before until a friend of mine posted on Facebook yesterday and cancelling their service and having to pay a $500+ cancelation fee! If it cost me money to use the internet after I went over my limit I would not be on mylot at those points. You must really love it here if you come here even when you are losing money. I am having trouble with my internet going on and off constantly lately. It is hard when my son does cyber school. I may switch to another company. We only have two we can choose from and the other one is double the cost.

@AbbyGreenhill same here! Improve being outside when it is nice weather. It is sleeting right now and the ground is still buried in snow. My son is doing cyber school so I can't really do anything but sit here so I use mylot and do other earning sites while I sit next to him.

Since I have cable and high speed internet I never realized that you have a certain amount of data with your internet provider. Guess it can be very frustrating at the end of your billing cycle if they cut your speed.

Very frustrating and that last week trying to watch a video of any kind can take 15 mins for a two min. video. No joke.

@ramapo17 I wouldn't say that, but I live in the boonies....satellite internet is my only option. But I'll take it over city life any day.

@AbbyGreenhill it's called Last Mile wireless. Before that we had Bell. 2 GB FOR $50 a month...$15 more for an extra 300 MB. AND $10 for each additional 100 MB. Now I have unlimited for $50. 2 Mbps Down and 130 Kbps Up To double the speed...is $20 more per month.

I don't think we have that option, to get unlimited at a slower speed. I think we can get it for a higher price. But I can live with the amount we have and just pay a little attention.

I agree. I am using prepaid mobile internet. I spend more or less $25/month. I spend more time at Humanatic because I am earning $100 plus a month there.

@AkoPinay @AbbyGreenhill mine is unlimited and is $19 a month for three years after that it will go up to $29. It drops the connection all the time so I am thinking I might need to go back to the company I was with before even though I paid $40 a month.

I heard that there are applications which compress data or block applications background so as to limit data usage. It can get very frustrating when your data time gets over. Having a slow internet connection is the worst thing of all

You pay a lot for limited Internet. We have unlimited data, so I do not lose money here, unless if you consider that spending a lot of time here for so little earning is like losing money.

How frustrating! I kind of know the feeling. My only internet choices are the one I don't want and the one I really don't want. I was losing any money I made on my last cell phone. On a usual month, I had 100 MB of data. Even when I splurged on "unlimited" the $10 phone and the network were so slow, I couldn't do anything. I was able to change providers and get a decent phone, so now I don't have to worry when depending on apps to earn extra cash. It's one less stressor in my life.

HughesNet was one of very few options we had for internet here, but they are all out of spots or something. It was confusing. I didn't like the way they set it up, and it was so expensive. So I am now just using my hotspot off my Verizon phone.

Typing on a phone would put me in the looney bin! I can't stand typing on my tablet. The service is ok, except when it is very very cloudy or it rains. Then it's not worth 10 cents.
