This Nana Luciana, 70 years old. She woke up today before 5 in the morning. She was asked to gather ripe tobacco leaves this morning. This is not the first time she gather yellow leaves. She has been doing this for 55 years. Tobacco is considered to be the cash crop of Ilocanos. Though this industry is facing many challenges like anti-smoking campaign, rising Sun tax and hard word for farmers but many are still planting tobacco plant. I just took the photo this morning.

I do think that SIN tax really affected them. In our country, taxes are becoming too high.

its not really struggle but just the way of her life. She used to be with this kind of job and stopping her seems like stopping her life... its like passion.

That is a hard life. I feel for her. I'm sure she is glad to have a job, but at seventy it must be difficult work.

Its a hard way of living but she has been doing this since she was very young. Long time ago, they need to wake up 2 in the morning just to water the plants. The technology and machineries made the farming easy, still it is considered as one of the hard job in the planet.
