I have made purchases at Amazon for many years. Its easy to compare prices quickly to save the most money and it doesn't take very long. Many times I can save more by buying online, as there is no gas cost and many stores offer free shipping. Now 4 states will be paying sales tax starting April 1 Hawaii, Idaho, Maine and New Mexico will have to pay like 40 other states are paying the tax now. You might be thinking doesn't she know there are 50 states. The other 5 don't have a sales tax. Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon and I was surprised about 1 on the list, as didn't know New Hampshire doesn't charge sales tax. Did you know 5 states don't have a sales tax?

I know Pennsylvania doesn't have a sales tax on food. If it's listed as 3.99, that's what you pay. At least at super markets. I'm sure gas stations find a way around that! :P

There isn't a sales tax on food in California. Other items the sales tax is high in this state.

@OneOfMany I agree about the cost of living, as use to live in Oregon. The houses just keep going up, which means more people have to share a home if they buy or buy in a different state.

@Fishmomma California doesn't need a tax on everything. Its cost of living is already too high. You couldn't survive in California making 30k a year, but here you can live just fine. In fact, you can even buy a decent house for 20k. Not a spectacular house, but some of those 500k homes there might be 20 to 40k here.

I like shopping on Amazon also. I pay sales tax if the seller is from CA if not it's tax free.

I know it has to be hard for online stores to collect sales tax, as cities in this state don't all have the same sales tax. Thanks for posting.
