The winding roads of conversations

Have you ever taken the time to see how conversations travel? They begin at one point and then, over time and perspectives, take so many twists and turns that they end up in completely different places! Someone begins a conversation about a food item. People talk about whether or not they like that food item. But then someone talks about a country where that food item is held in great esteem. And suddenly, the conversation turns to the foods of different countries. And then someone mentions a trip they took to one of those countries. Now the conversation turns to trips people have taken to various places around the globe! Someone mentions a cruise they've taken and now the conversation goes to cruise lines and which is the best! It's so much fun to watch conversations move from topic to topic. Sometimes they seem to have a life all their own! Claudia

Only sometimes? Heck, every time I've gotten involved in one of the lengthy conversations here on Mylot it jumps all over the place because each person is commenting on a comment made except after a while no one knows whose comment is being commented on

There are some conversations that can go on forever and cover so much ground. And others fall and just drop off the earth as if they never existed in the first place. One never knows where their words will go. Or if they will stop short.

You're right. Once a conversation gets started it can go in all sorts of directions.

it's so much fun to see where a conversation can go if there's enough interest!

yesterday, i had a convo with the accountant, they offered me a cold sweet treat, i turned it down due to my teeth sensitivity, then the convo goes from the cold sweet to teeth, to our dentists :))

It reminds me Theatre class where we had to start a scene about one thing and a person had to jump in to take our place and they would have to choose a word or something in the scene to begin from to change the scene.

Now that's a brilliant exercise! To have to do something like that on purpose is so much more difficult than when it happens by itself. That had to be a lot of fun!

Yea it's pretty amazing how that happens. @TheHorse wrote a post some time ago and me and another mylotter talked and talked and talked on that post. Back when they told you how many comments you had on a post we had over a thousand comments. It was great fun.

I have a friend who is expert at that. She will start for example telling us about her holiday abroad where she meets an aunt and then the conversation ends with that aunt's grandchildren

I've often found myself at an unexpected point in a conversation and wondered how in the world we got there. It is kind of fun backtracking through the turns to figure out just what happened.

I have noticed things just like that here on myLot, Claudia! (Long time, no see! How have you been doing?) In some cases the change in the direction is caused by accident... but get too close to some topics and watch how many people try to throw a wrench into the works to change to a new direction! It happens... It sometimes happens a LOT!

@CRK109 You would be more than welcome to get lost on some of these threads with us, Claudia! Hmmm... many of the people who have "Liked" this discussion join me quite often in long and rambling discussions here. There are several that are currently ongoing now.

It is also interesting to see how peoples minds work, and how they make the connections needed to get those winding conversations from point A to point z.

We really do learn a lot from one another in those conversations. One person can choose a happy, lively turn while another choose a more morose turn. All from the same beginning. And those of us who sit and watch get little clues! lol

@CRK109 It's fun to follow even if you don't participate in that particular conversation.
