The University of North Carolina men's basketball team won their sixth overall NCAA basketball championship on Monday evening beating Gonzaga University Bulldogs by a final score of 71-65 in Glendale Arizona. Tar Heels coach Roy Williams won his third championship coaching the basketball team which puts him in elite company as one of the best coaches in college basketball history. The Tar Heels basketball team had to deal with an academic scandal this year and the death of their former coach Dean Smith. Another basketball team that went through these kind of challenges would have folded their tents, but this Tar Heels team earned the title of basketball champions after losing to Villanova University in the 2016 NCAA basketball championship. In my opinion the Tar Heels sixth basketball championship is in the song title by the singing group "Touch" called "The Sweetest Victory" from the soundtrack of the motion picture "Rocky IV" which came out in 1985.

North Carolina and Williams still have a ways to go in catching UCLA and John Wooden.

That is true since John Wooden (RIP) was one of the greatest coaches in college basketball history.
