What's your favorite condiment....ketchup, mustard, mayo?

United States

I was looking in the fridge for something while in the back of my mind I was formulating a post. I guess I think better when my brain is cool! Anyway, I remember one I did years ago regarding condiments. Since I have a problem with dairy and other foods, the mayo is not my choice. We use very little of it. The exception is in the summer when I make my husband his favorite sandwich - BLT - with fresh garden 'maters and home grown lettuce. I have always loved mustard. There are actually 4 or 5 different mustards in the fridge. In my younger days I put mustard on everything - including burgers and pizza. However, ketchup is my go-to condiment. I have been known to put it on baked potatoes! I go through it fast since I found a recipe I like for bbq sauce and it uses a lot of ketchup. Now I ask you - what is your favorite condiment? Photo is mine

Hands down mustard. I don't like mayo except on rare occasions when it is a lightly used ingredient in something like macaroni salad.

For me, something like a macaroni salad needs Miracle Whip. Real mayo is too bland for me.

Hellman's Mayonaise is definitely my first choice! I put mayo on a LOT of things. Sandwiches, fries, burgers, chicken, and tortilla chips too. =)

@AbbyGreenhill Yes, I love it! Lol. Maybe I'm weird. I love mayo on burgers too. I have done it all my life since I was a kid, used to drive my mom crazy.

@LovingMyBabies The only time I used to use mayo not on a sandwich (when I could eat mayo) was when I used it in chocolate cake.

Mayo on fries? In the south they automatically put mayo on burgers, drives my husband crazy.

In the last year I found ketchup to be too acid to be usually enjoyable. I also don't really like tomatoes. I used to be crazy for ketchup when I was a kid, like putting in on white bread and just eating it. I like mustard quite a lot, but it is not as common as ketchup and mayo, so when I go dining out, I usually have mayo instead. And I used to despise mayo when I was a kid. My taste changed completely through the years.

I think many peoples' taste change over the reason for different reasons. When I make the bbq sauce I always put some sugar which cuts that acid...but I can't do that if I use it on a Roast Beef sandwich LOL!

Where is the problem with mayo if you have a problem with dairy? Mayo should be made only with eggs and oil. I like home made mayo and hot mustard on some things, ketchup not at all.

@AbbyGreenhill I never heard of vegan mayo. We do not use mayo or mustard a lot, because it does not happen often that I prepare sandwiches.

@LadyDuck All the vegans on facebook have been talking about it. I saw it in Ingles the last time we were there...think I'll read the label and see what is in it. I put mustard on burgers sometimes and on hot pretzels and on regular pretzels!

I have issues with all kinds of food....no eggs, no oil at all. I am wondering if Vegan mayo might work for me.

I guess it would be ketchup because I use it to makes sauces and on my burgers when I have them. I do not like yellow mustard but I do like honey mustard or the different flavored mustards. I use mayo for BLTs and other sandwiches.

I eat a lot of ham sandwiches and yellow mustard or grey poupon is what I used - my husband has some hot and spicy mustards that would burn my mouth if I ate them. We had company from NJ years ago - big eaters - and the husband used an entire jar of mayo the size of the one in the photo - in two days. He piled it on a mile high!

@abbeygreenhill I'm afraid I can't tolerate the thought of putting ketchup on food. Or Mayo unless it is proper mayonnaise made fresh in the proper way. My family and friends don't get it.

I don't eat mayo at all, so I would never make homemade. Everyone has different tastes. Some of what I eat or don't eat is due to stomach issues.

I buy bbq sauce trying to find one that isn't smoky flavor - I can't eat smoked foods or things that taste smoky. That's why I make my own - which my husband doesn't like he likes the smoky kind.

I love all of them but it depends on what I'm eating on which I like to use. I like ketchup with anything fried, mayo with any salad and fish, mustard with any sandwiches. I also like mayo and mustard together or ketchup and mayo together. Never with mayo and mustard though.

@AbbyGreenhill In Subway sandwich I told the guy I want mayo only and he go ahead and put a good helping of mustard on my sandwich. And then wrapped it. Then I repeat myself, that mayo only he looked liat me . And the manager stepped in and said he will prepare another sandwich for me. No fuss and good service. I'm not sure about what happened to the guy after that.

@AbbyGreenhill Some folks call hummus a dip. We don't. Its mashed beans and garlic and sesame and oil if you like and lots of lemon. Healthiest if home made. My other condiment is pesto.
