I have been thinking about learning a programming language. It will be my first one, so I am looking for something relatively simple to learn. What is a good language to learn?

I looked at the other responses, I thought of HTML first, but it really depends on what you plan to do. HTML is for websites, but if you planned to create softwares, apps or videogames, then C or Java. I remember there was a free course from Havard, it started with C. I left because I wasn't motivated enough.
An introduction to the intellectual enterprises of computer science and the art of programming.

@Bluedoll HTML is just a code for showing stuff, I guess. C looked a basic version of PHP, maybe of Java too. It gives you more chances, not just website creating skills. You can't create a website without HTML but HTML doesn't allow you to create a full videogame either, so yes, it really depends on what you want to accomplish. @pigeboy You're very welcome, hoping the Harvard course is still available. I tried it a few years ago.

Thanks for the link! C looks like a popular answer here so I'll try that one.

It will be easier for you to know what language that you really want to learn, and it will be better if you are being motivated in learning it as you have a reason to learn it. Easy or hard depends on each learner. Why don't you try sign language?

Python is the best language when you first learn programming. Nowadays ,You don't start your first programming language with Java or C++ unless you're the kind of person who like to torture yourself with lots advanced and arcane programming concept. Learn Python first, it'll teach you basic concept of programming , from that you can learn other programming language easily without getting confused. Python = Simple, powerful and truly get the programming job done quickly, no doubt. I suggest learning python from automatetheboringstuff.com, I first learn python from there.

Learn programming languages for the web. Start with HTML, then CSS, then Javascript. Then you may also want to learn Perl.
