Moving right along, we are at #8 in my Favorite 80's Dance Songs series, in which I countdown my favorite dance tracks from my favorite decade. The 8th slot belongs to "New York" by MCL. This will be quick, because I've never known too much about these guys, and there isn't a lot of information on them out there. MCL (short for Micro Chip League,) formed in 1987. The electronic dance group consisted of Talla 2XLC, Axel Henninger, and Ken Taylor. Talla (born Andreas Tomalla) is better known as the driving force behind acts such as Bigod 20, and is widely credited as being the inventor of techno trance music. MCL's classic 1987 club hit "New York" is one that definitely got the clubgoers moving. At 120 BPM (beats per minute,) the dark, pounding tune practically demands your presence on the dancefloor. Whenever it comes up on shuffle on my iPod, I play it about ten times in a row. Because it's that good (and the louder, the better!) Enjoy! (Info verified by Last FM, Song BPM)

@teamfreak16 I don't always have time to listen to the songs I don't know.

@JudyEv - No worries. I pretty much do these for my own amusement as it is. If someone actually listens, even better.

I do not know about you, but sounds 80's to me. Good rhythm and nice to hear dance music that does not sound all the same. Yeas, another swipe and pop and hip hop. Just want them to be better and do better.

It's definitely rooted in the 80's, but you could kind hear the direction he was headed at the same time.

Cool use of "New York, New York" at the end.

I just listened to this song, but hadn't heard of it before which surprises me since that is from my era.

It was pretty much a club song. If you were going to clubs then, you might have heard it, but otherwise, probably not. You might recognize the next one, though.

Surprisingly, I've not heard of them. I wonder if they are still out there?

I thought it was New York, New York by Frank Sinatra. This has a catchy tune.

It's a forerunner of insanely revved industrial rave and has synthpop new wave sensibilities.
