All chocolate is not created equal

A few days ago scrolling through Facebook I came across an article about how someone came up with the real recipe for the Coke Cake that Cracker Barrel sells. I bookmarked that recipe, after all, I'm a choc-a-holic since birth. Yesterday I realized we had not been out to eat for over 10 days and it was time. I had a chicken and dumplings craving so off we went to Cracker Barrel. I had my chicken and dumplings and was a happy camper. When the girl brought the bill I told her about the recipe for the cake and that I wanted to take home a piece to try it. Boy I am glad I did! That cake is over the top sweet. The cake itself is dense, heavy but OK. It was the frosting that that pushed me over the edge. My husband loves sweet things (I'm included in that!) and even he said it was too sweet. They don't give you a very large piece of Coke Cake and now I understand why. We ate the cake part and trashed the frosting. No, I will not be making that cake and I won't buy any more of it either! You may be "a choc-a-holic since birth" but I am "a pre birth" sweet-a-holic".

I won't blame my mother for this - but it is her fault...

I suppose that it's called Coke Cake because there is Coca Cola inside, I am sure it's too sweet, surely not something I would like.

@AbbyGreenhill The cake sounds not too bad (I would skip the cup of Coca-Cola for something else) The frosting is far too sweet.

Thanks for the warning! Lol! I love chocolate but there is such a thing as too much as you said. So, I know when ordering dessert from there to never order that! You'd really have to have a sweet tooth to enjoy that from the way it sounds! Lol!

@AbbyGreenhill Lol! Now that's pretty rich when a kid wouldn't like it. Because there are very few sweets my daughter would pass up!

We are not fans of things that are too sweet and wonder why some put what seems to be three times the sugar in some products. Are there fans of such things? There must be is someone went to the trouble to put out a recipe!

Chocolate can be too rich. I had some rich cake a few weeks ago.

The frosting has chocolate syrup which I think is why it is too much.

So Abby that it was too sweet. I love chocolate always. I love having hot chocolate in the morning whether it is winter or summer. For me the best part of the cake was the frosting and sorry to hear it was too sweet. Good thing you did not bake it and then have to throw the whole thing or most of it out.
