28 - yes, 28 - pages of animal selfies?!

That's what was in my local paper one day this past week. How did the pets hold the cameras? And wouldn''t a dog think a selfie stick is something that's thrown for them to fetch? Seriously, it's some sort of competition. And 28 pages with pictures of readers and their pets probably means hundreds, maybe even thousands of extra copies bought as presents for friends and families. But, like many other readers, I am sure, I wasn't interested enough to study the pictures in any detail. Selfie culture shows no sign of letting up. Of course, if they had printed 28 pages of shots featuring a handsome chap with a mannequin then it would have been a different story... How often do you take selfies?

I do not.. But I would actually be interested in perusing animal selfies. That would be right up my alley. As I sit here surrounded by 4 dogs and 15 cats. Lol

That's quite a menagerie! There were 702 finalists printed in the Bournemouth Daily Echo yesterday for the phone-in vote.

I never take selfies, I dislike this kind of photo very much. Of course animals cannot take selfies, because except monkey, I cannot see which animal could press the button.

@asfarasiknow I have seen some funny animals close up, when they have tried to grab a GoPro. As you say, it can only happen by accident.

@LadyDuck It couldn't be any worse than some of the camera work I see on YouTube or even the odd TV show.

I suppose some creatures might do it but probably by accident.

I like a good photo but that generally means that it doesn't include me in it.

@asfarasiknow You haven't read a book called Blind Faith, by Ben Elton, have you? Not the greatest piece of writing, but the concept rings so true...

@pgntwo I have never read any of his novels but many years ago I saw the TV adaptation of an early one set in Australia. I'd probably start with the one that's a satire on X-Factor etc. He was a guest on Simon Cowell's This Is Your Life just after it came out and Cowell told him.how much he liked the book. I wondered if he was saying it through gritted teeth.

Celebrities must be getting really fed up with it. An interesting development in that they are now reluctant to have pictures taken and also that they are sometimes meeting people even more vain than they are.

I don't take them. I remember when people made fun of you if you took a picture of yourself. Besides, the best selfies are the ones Mr.Bean takes!

Ah, the good old days when you asked a stranger to take your photo. Best case scenario: everybody knew you were a tourist; worst case: they ran off with your camera.

Same here. My girlfriend, our cat, the garden and the wildlife in it are my favourite subjects.

people in their 'self' and their 'selfie' are different. It is better to be in the 'self' than being in the 'selfie'

If a picture ever gets taken of me with our cat he always looks great and I always look terrible.

The trend has to peak soon. I wonder what will replace it.

Selfies are the only photos of me that I know will be okay. Well, one in two hundred of them might be okay. I hate anybody else taking my picture.

I know what you mean. I only ever seem to get my facial expression right a couple of seconds after the picture has been taken.

At least they were all in a pull-out section that was easily removed.

I don't take selfies. I'm rarely happy with pictures of myself. If the newspaper had room for 28 pictures of animals, it must have been a slow news day.

I seldom take selfies. I don't like to be perceived as so in love with myself, that's why.
