Is IPL killing cricket?

April 22, 2017 2:36am CST
Young cricketers are enticed by big money offered by ipl teams and are therefore ignoring their duties for national team. They are also paying more attention to power hitting and slogging rather than developing proper batting techniques. Also the love for the game is substituted by love for money. What are your views?Should the ipl reform itself for the good?

I'm not a big fan of IPL,but I think it has greatly increased interest of fans, oppurtinities for young players and revenue for the board. Only thing is, I wish it was more properly administered - more rules favouring bowlers, bigger grounds, better & honest financial management. And, yes, the techical & beautiful aspects of batting, may be sometimes disappointing, if you like tests!

But the young players are getting selected into test squads on the basis of these ipl performances which is unfair on those who perform consistently well in ranji.

@smruti99 That's actually a valid point. The only solution seems to be a consensus or a separate legal agreement amongst selection team members, that they shall not purely judge cricketers solely on performance in IPL.

Is it a game or a gambling?

yes. certainly. When Mr. Kerry packer introduced it many countries banned their players for being accepted his offer. But, they are allowed freely.

True that

IPL had both the impacts. Youngsters had good learning experience. Fielding has improved a lot for Indian teams. Match fixing was the negative impact though.
