Squirrels in the oven.

I just put lunch in the oven. We had three squirrels that the neighbor gave us yesterday. I thawed them out. Browned them in the cast iron skillet, with some breading on them and then stuck them in the oven. I have never made squirrel before so we will see how they turn out. They smell pretty good, so I am hopeful that they will turn out pretty good. They have to bake for an hour so the kitchen will smell pretty good for awhile at least.

@JolietJake supposedly lamb and duck are too but I'll never know. Wait. My husband made me try a bite of lamb last month when we were in NYC. I guess I'll never know about duck or squirrel

@courtlynn you might have eaten and enjoyed it before without knowing. Nicely prepared/spiced squirrel tastes so good.

What does it taste? I haven't heard or read that squirrels can be eaten. I am sure some people eat rabbits.

The first thing coming to mind is Granny Clampett making dinner on The Beverly Hillbillies.

I wonder if that's how grandma made em, dad used to tell us about all the things she'd make when he was growing up in the 1920s and 30s, times were tough so she'd cook just about anything to feed her 5 young'uns and hubby. I've never eaten squirrel but dad said it was good. Grandma also made bluejay or other kinds of birds that grandpa killed, he was a share cropper and didn't want those birds eating his crop so he killed em.
