Ah, parentheses. You learn about them in the fourth grade, but you don't learn to spell 'em until the ninth grade! @teamfreak16 and I are counting down our favorite songs that have a parenthetical title. Here's the next song on my list of country favorites (with parentheses in the title). #9: Me 'n' Opie (Down By the Duck Pond) - BR5-49 Oh, look, another alt-country act. In this case, it's the kings of Robert's Western World in the mid-90s, BR5-49. Taking their name from the phone number in a Hee Haw sketch (which, for the record, was BR-549 in the show....the band moved the dash to keep the attorneys happy, because, as Don Henley said, "lawyers dwell on small details"), the band rose from playing the Lower Broadway club to a record deal as they combined covers and original songs, all played in a classic country style. This song is SICK. On the album leader Chuck Mead introduced it as "the lost episode of The Andy Griffith Show." Yeah, right. None of this ever happened in Mayberry. In the introduction, Mead said the song is "a particularly heinous tale about drug abuse and sexual deviance." Do keep that in mind if you have tender ears. On the other hand, if you enjoy hearing a side-splitting skewering of one of the greatest classic television series in American history, this is right up your alley. Me 'n' Opie (Down By the Duck Pond) Written by Chuck Mead, Alan Murphy, and Mark Rosenberry Recorded by BR5-49 From Live At Robert's, 1996 Don't tell Andy, don't tell Aunt Bee:

The only thing that would have made it better if Barney had caught Otis with Thelma.
