the young policeman

April 26, 2017 2:40am CST
The young {seemingly still a teenager - or am I just getting old?} policeman forced me to turn around and find another way to get from A to B. He didn't care about my squeals of woe or my begging. It's an active crime scene, he declared. Get thee gone. So I huffed and puffed, swore a bit {I can be very uncouth when the need arises} and stomped off back the way I had come. A longer route meant that I had to walk faster, but I made it to the second bus stop with about thirty seconds to spare. Hurrah! I was a bit Sweaty Betty, flushed of face and panting, but Hurrah! It's all exercise ... it can only be a Good Thing. And no, it wasn't anything too exciting. Just some stupid ram raiders trying to steal a stupid cash machine from a wall. Humpf. Let's hope the rest of my Wednesday is joyful and lovely.

Were the thieved trying to pry it loose, or pull it with a vehicle? A similar thing happened here several years ago. The would be thieves wound up losing the bumper of their car.

@Poppylicious The geniuses probably never realized how heavy those machines are and couldn't carry it off.

@DWDavis Probably. Some people are a little dim.

They had a vehicle, like a mini tractor or something. They managed to pull the atm free but then scarpered in a car, leaving the vehicle and the atm in the middle of the street! So, they achieved nothing, except causing a mess and waking up a lot of disgruntled folk in the flats and homes nearby at 4am!

@poppylicious A gallant policeman would have carried through the danger and distress of the streets in his arms and set you down softly and safely on the other side.

I don't think gallant policemen have existed for a long time!

What a bad morning you got there, at least you didn't get arrested.

Me too. Especially my morning routine which is timed perfectly. But all was fine in the end, so I probably panicked for nothing!
