Run for your life

I have never been a runner, and I will never be one, however, hubby used to run cross country, more than fifty years ago. About fifteen years ago he said he was going to take up running again. It did not happen. He has checked out a book about running and says he is going to do it again. We shall see. He is over seventy, but you would not know it. I am wondering if this cancer issue has made him think he should start running again to improve his health. I need to walk for my life.

If you canĀ“t run you can always walk. Fast walking and then slowing down and then going a bit faster is as good as running maybe it might suit him more?

He says he is going to run. It is a good motivational book, and you would think, looking at him, that he is in his forties. The interval training you recommend is really good, I know.

@GardenGerty Yes I know I saw him in a photo. But even so hope he starts with baby steps and run a Marathon right away. Good luck.

Well, I hope he does what he can to stay healthy. I'd rather walk but down here there's too many sandstorms right now to do that and then it'll be in the upper 90s which makes walking really tough. Oh well, I'll just play watersports with Ally

I love water exercises, and anything else that gives me an excuse to get wet.

Oh yes @GardenGerty especially when it gets up in the triple digits. Thankfully Ally always helps me get wet, she stands right next to me and shakes all that excess water right onto me

How is he doing Heather? Yes perhaps he is thinking the running will help his immune system to fight that cancer. Not a bad idea if he is up to it..He certainly is amazing to be running too. Yes I need to walk more also Heather..wish we were nearer I would walk with you.

I am concerned about keeping my resolve to walk when school is out, a walking buddy would be welcome.

@GardenGerty Yes it gets tedious somehow on your own sometimes but not always. You can do it!!! It is the heat that would kill me.

I run/walk. Run a little and walk a little. the dogs enjoy this they think its a fun game, especially when I am out of breath and they keep pulling me. I was not a runner but I can have have ran before. I played softball as a kid and basketball, some football as a teen but never track.

I never played any sports. My mom especially did not encourage us to, as girls. Dumb. My knees and feet are in bad shape, so walking is much safer for me.

I have never been a runner either, and never cared to do it. I am so short I have to take 3 steps to my husband's one step. Think I'll just walk.

Just for the reason you mention I have heard it is not really great for husbands and wives to walk together. I am not even all that short but I too have trouble keeping up.

@GardenGerty When we hike he has to go slower than I do, so I get tired quicker than he does. Doesn't seem fair somehow lol.

My walking is only structured at work, where we do it to help a student burn out some energy.

@GardenGerty giving ourselves at least 30mins. walked, runned,or excercised everyday is good for our health. Well he should try, it's really helpful so that his blood will circulate and flow normally.

We do not see our lives as a gamble. We try to maintain control and be healthy.
