The cops came to my house and made me uncomfortable

Today was a crazy day. There was a loud knock on my door, and when I opened it, I found a police officer crouched to the right of my door behind my garbage can with his gun out of his holster and held out to his side. I was so freaked and confused, because here is a guy with a fire arm at my house and apparently ready to take somebody down, and we had done nothing wrong. His partner then joined him in my doorway. So, he asks me if I had seen anybody with a gun, and I told him no. Now I'm even more freaked. He then asked me if there was a man in my house with a gun. Again, I said no. Then he asked if there was a man in my house at all, so I called my fiancé. When he came to the door they asked him to come outside and asked him if he had a gun. He said no. Then his partner took my fiancé around the side of the house and read him his rights and started asking him all kinds of gun questions. I asked the first cop, why he would think someone here has a gun, and he said one of my neighbors had called them, and said that their kid was jumping on the trampoline and saw someone here waving a revolver around in my yard, and told their parent that, and that it was my fiancé. Now I'm really, really freaking out. We don't own guns. I have 3 children, and these cops were doing all of this in front of them. I even told the cops how I feel about guns (I hate them). Then my fiancé comes back, and won't talk to me. The cop that had taken him around the corner asks me if he can search my house for a gun. I was thrown for a loop, cus....again....we don't have a gun, but in the end I let him in, because I also hate drama. It made me really uncomfortable. It is Saturday, and we were all sitting around in our pajamas, and the house wasn't what I would consider ready to receive company, and I found it really embarrassing. Also, our house is crappy and falling apart, and I hate it, and now I have to let a stranger who is making a ridiculous accusation snoop around in it. Anyway, after that they left, and my fiancé told me that while they were around the corner, the cop asked him if he could search the house, and he told the cop to ask me.....so, yeah. But now I still feel really icky about the whole thing, and really really shaken up. I know that those neighbors kids are really young. One is maybe in the first or second grade, one is either preschool or younger, and one is a baby. So. Firstly, why were these kids left unattended outside? If a parent had been out there, they would have seen my fiancé go to the mail box and come back. All he had were keys and mail. I don't know how you think that is a gun....let alone a revolver and he certainly didn't wave anything around. And while I'm on that, Why a revolver? Who the hell carries a revolver? Like....a cowboy, or something? Also, how does this little kid even know what a revolver is? Maybe I'm over thinking this, but it doesn't feel right to me. There are too many things that don't make sense here. And although this kid apparently described my house, and my fiancé specifically; what if there really was a guy with a gun in my yard? That would mean that there was a guy with a gun...other than the cop....near my house. My dad thinks that on Monday I should call the chief of police and ask him about all of this, because it sounds so weird. Am I over reacting to this? I mean even if they thought someone here had a gun, why would they be ready to spring at the next person to open the door like they were going to come out shooting????? And they just assumed it would be an illegal gun too! Again, we don't now nor will we ever have firearms in our house but.....WOW!

I think you need to speak to your neighbour and get her to explain to her kids that making up stories hurts other people.

I am tempted. The cop told me that he didn't want me to "start anything" with the neighbors though.

Wow that is so wrong and so scary for all of you especially your children who witnessed everything. I would definitely be requested to talk to the chief if I were you. That is just ridiculous.
