Crime and its roots in children Crime is an growing menance in the fast moving world, and the culprits are incrasing leaps and bounds at every nook and corner of the world. The strategies to curb these atrocities are also gaining their pace. So now, the question arises that , how should the convictees be treated, and what is the proper yardstick to be choosen to assess them. Instead of outrightly pronouncing the punishment without any psychological and situational assessment may not be a appropriate. So, everyone should be given a fair chance to prove their innocence as many innocent people are languishing in prisons for the punishments they have never committed. It is also very important factor to acknowledge that the situations and conditions also play an vital role in the behavioural pattern of the individuals. Primarily speaking, a person is not a born criminal, it is his conditions as well as his upbringing, poverty and also the biased responses of the society are also important attributes in building up a persona of an individual. For example, a poverty-stricken child may be easily attracted to an affluent lifestyle, and wants to earn an easy income by imbibing antisocial activities, which slowly and steadily transforms them into habitual offenders. In this situation, if a proper guidance is given and they are moulded vocationally to stand on their feet and earn an respectable living, then there is every chance of deviating such children from further illegal activities. But instead, if they are rushed into juvenile homes or confined jails, and with their close proximity with some of the hardcore criminals, then there is an increased chances of them getting transformed into first rate offenders. Secondly, if crime is commited with intentional harm and damage, then it is compulsary to subject these criminals with harsh punishment, so that it can be an deterring example for future wrong-doers. At the same time, hardcore dreaded culprits can be eliminated , so that the society can be spared from further heinous atrocities. The total intention of reforming criminals should be to wipe out the crime, changing the mind-set of these deviated individuals and also make them realize the value of proper living, and also inculcating the emotions of empathy, compassion, peace and co-operation. Overall, the thinking pattern of tge society should be changed first, to stop judging the people on their faces, instead to have an compassionate understanding of the situations and cirsumstances which might have been the precursors that had lead to the consequences of committing crime. The fair trail and forward thinking are also very important for further transformation from offenders to responsible and law abiding individuals.
