Why do you think shootings in public places happen so often in the US?

I've traveled to the US several times and I love the country. I like the people, the locations, the American vibe and I think the country is beautiful and generous. But I do get so sad when I hear about shootings happening in places like schools so often... I find this so disturbing and I can help to ask myself why these things happen so often in the US. Any clues?
