What's the easiest way to clean your rugs?

If I thought I could get away with it and not flood the apartment, I'd just stuff em in the washer. LOL I'm lazy, I know. But there just has to be an easier way to wash them then by taking them to the dry-cleaners (which I just can't afford).
What works well for you guys?

Just brush them with good detergent soap and dry them in the sun.
