More Than Meets The Eyes

The above passages or quotation in the picture from the book "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupery is one of my favorite line in that book. How do you interpret or what is the meaning of that line in so far as you are concern? 1. Is it true that it is only with the heart that one can see rightly? 2. Is it also true that what is essential is invisible to the eye? As for me the heart (or "soul"/"spirit" symbolically represented by the heart) has a reason of its own, that the mind (meaning our physical brain) cannot see on its on. It is like the saying that "the mind has a thousand eyes, but the heart only one". For me the word "heart" is being used in a figurative sense and not in the physical sense (meaning heart's only biological function is for pumping of blood/blood circulation). As to the second passages, I interpret the word "essential" as those things that are metaphysical, eternal, spiritual or divine or ethereal that goes beyond the corporal/physical/material which is represented by the physical eye.

Visibility and invisibility are complementary and so are mind and heart. There are so many things that our mind will never understand and will tag it absurd. And there are absolutely equal number of things that our heart simply refuses to understand, it's as if when one approach it, it shuts its door. So what to do? How to get out of a dilemma. Go with your heart , that's what I do. Because mind has intellect which will find a path and solutions no matter how big the problem. On the other hand, heart is stubborn. It will offer you those invisible string and hazy images and demand the clarity. But not to forget, our mind has that power. It can solve any puzzle. So go with the heart, and let the mind obey its call with the things visible. Bdw I've started reading this book with my student. They got it as their summer assignment. I'll come up with more details when I'm done with it so that I too can offer some quotes from the work.

Nice post the entire text is so engaging that whosoever may read will start thinking about it at once. I always follow my heart and never had a vision from mind. Because I believe mind is too calculative and at times confuses you. Also in my opinion some post instantaneously order your level of wisdom to share your point of view.

I think the eye only sees what's outside as it is placed outside our body. While the heart sees what is inside and it is also placed inside our body. Ohh. I dont know of I make sense here. sorry
