Darn those birds - they outsmarted me!

I will never use the phrase 'bird brain' ever again! I thought all was well with the rubber snake keeping the birds out of my hanging basket. When I put the snake in it yesterday there was no nest, I made sure of that. The birds were hanging around the plant last evening, but I didn't see them with building material in their beaks! I thought I had it under control - wrong! We were out most of the morning - running to the pool supply store, the grocery store, etc. Once we put things away I got on the computer and I could hear them chirping away. I had to investigate and when I took the hanging basket down I was certainly surprised not only to see a nest, but one little blue egg. Since the last batch born consisted of 5 babies, I'm sure more eggs are in the chute! I guess I will give up and let them have it. I can't do much about it at this point.

You aren´t going to scramble that egg, of course. It seems that the birds´conversation you wrote yesterday was different You will have to learn bird´s language.

I told you to move the snakes so that they would think it was real. Birds are incredibly smart.

Have the eggs hatched yet, Abby? I've never heard of birds building a nest in a hanging basket, but it's quite smart of them. I love that you tried to scare them off with the rubber snake. Excellent idea, even if it didn't work!

They hatached within the last 4-5 days...three days ago I took the basket down and the nest was full of white fuzz, today my husband and I looked and now they are brown fuzz and you can just make on tiny beaks. We always have had birds build or try to build in the hanging baskets. Now another set built a nest under the eaves of the porch. I think it's different parents LOL!

Looks like they decided that you have put that up there for them to use, and they better make the most of it.

Oh dear, you have been outsmarted! Maybe you'd better try to start a slip of the plant growing in another hanging basket in case you lose this plant.

Ha ha that is really funny you tried to keep them out of it with a fake snake. I would love to have a nest of birds in my yard survive. Something always comes in and ruins the next and the eggs.
