Day 249 Proverbs 22:26 Proverbs 22:26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts. 27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee? People have been paying for their goods with some form of credit, either by putting it on their tab as was the case before credit cards, or with credit cards. The current credit card as we know it, started in 1966 with Bank America. Since then anyone with a credit card is subject to finance charges if not paid off by the end of the month. If the balance remained unpaid, the card company has the right to close your account and in some cases, you would lose whatever goods you put up as collateral. Striking hands was a method used by Abraham and common throughout the days of the early church. Solomon warned against using this method and creating debt that would see the loss of property. Paul in his letter to the Romans, admonished the people that they were to pay their dues to those who were owed, but as far as accruing debt, they were not to owe anyone anything, except the debt of love. Romans 13:7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor. 8 Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loves another hath fulfilled the law. Jesus paid your long-standing sin debt to Satan on the cross with his blood. It was the only payment that was acceptable. With his blood, Jesus paid for the sins of every man, woman, and child, born since the foundation of the world. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Love through the blood of Jesus Christ is the payment for your sins. Blood was the only payment Satan would accept for your sin. Jesus loves you so much that he was willing to lay down his life for you. Your debt is paid. You do not need to strike hands with the devil. He can’t take anything from you, though he will try. Because the debt is paid in full, the only thing he can do is steal what belongs to God through his Son, Jesus Christ. John 10:10 The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. You have eternal life through Jesus. Don’t let Satan lull you into believing his lies and keep you chained to false debts. Accept the payment of Jesus on the cross. Your life is Paid In Full. Satan has no right to it. Let’s pray: Father, help me keep debt out of my life and owe no man anything except to love him, just as Jesus paid the ransom price for my sin through his blood because he loves me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 16 May 2017 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

I do not have a credit card, and I don't want one. If I don't have the money to pay for something, I don't want to buy it.

When I was a child growing up, my mother purchased household items for our home by what we called "Hire purchase". At the time, there was no other way.

Interesting. My parents paid cash for everything. I don't think they had a credit card until we were out of the house.
