More bad news....

Me and mom went to the car place to have them look it over. He says The water pump is out and the car place wants to charge 700$ my mom is going to be buying a water pump hoping that my uncle can fix it. So once again we waste money on a car that is way to expensive to fix. Praying my Uncle can fix it, if not we will be selling this junker. God more horrible news, why can't my family ever catch a break!!!

As far as I can tell, all cars these days are not only expensive to buy (new) but expensive to maintain. If the water pump is easy to get to, I'm thinking your uncle will be able to replace it. I used to work with a shade-tree auto mechanic but we did only VW Beetles, back around 1980, and most of them were the older, uncomplicated ones. Now those were easy to work on! And didn't cost a lot to buy, maintain, and/or drive. My how things have changed.

@chrissbergstrom Now see, I know nothing about timing belts. The more complicated the task becomes, the more inclined I am (personally) to bite the bullet and fork over the $$$ to have a pro do the job. Not having the money to spare complicates the situation beyond belief. A lot of work I did on the VWs back in the day was repairing jobs done by amateurs (not that I was a pro, but my boss was, and he taught me and watched my work).

@blitzfrick I am hoping my uncle and possibly my dad can work together and fix it, they are both experienced and have worked on lots of cars but it's always more difficult with newer cars.

@chrissbergstrom Yep. I think the manufacturers of these new cars make them complicated on purpose so that people can't work on them themselves.

Oh so very sorry to hear it. This is why I do not have a car but I can do that as there is plenty of public transport where I live, I understand you need a car. Poor Mom..hope your Uncle can fix it then. Wow wonder if you could get one from used junk yard or something that sounds an awful lot.

I have never kept a car long enough to have problems with it. We have an 8 year old 4Runner and that is a first for me. No problems with it though. Toyotas are awesome.

@LoriAMoore We just don't have money like that to spare, and we have horrible luck with cars.

@chrissbergstrom I never have. I usually lease cars. The 4Runner my husband and I bought and so far it is running like a charm all these years later.

They are charging $700 to fix it ? that seems pretty expensive- and you do have to buy the pump.

If it was a cat it would be money well spent. A car? Not so much.

Sometimes its best to get another car rather than continual pumping in money for repairs.

I totally agree and I know that we won't be paying much before making the decision to sell this junker and get a new one.
