When I read Jabo @jaboUK Mother’s Day post, Mothers and Daughters I was reminded of a poem I wrote a few years ago. I don’t have any daughters but I have two wonderful sons. A Mother’s Joy A mother’s joy is watching her child grow. From infant to adulthood My, how the time flies. Where is my sweet little boy? In the blink of an eye My sweet little boy Is a strong, confident man. When did that happen? The hours turned into days And the days into years. I miss my little boy That’s not so little anymore. I smile up at the face That I once looked down to see. He’s tall, strong, and confident. I miss my little boy, But how could I not be Proud of the man standing before me? My, how time flies.

That is really quite beautiful @BettyB . Tall, strong and confident is all a Mother's heart could want for their child or children.

You are so right, but I miss the little ones. Some day, if I'm lucky, they'll give me grandsons to spoil.

This is lovely Betty, and yes, they are men before we know it. They say that 90% of boys grow taller than their mothers.

I knew they would be tall but my husband didn't expect them to tower over him. The 'tall' genes are from my side of the family.

So very true, I was blessed with both sons and daughters and it is so true they all grow way to fast.

@BettyB Yes, they are all precious. Sometimes I think I would have liked a few more daughters.

I would have liked to have a daughter, but I wouldn't trade my sons for the world.

@mom210 I wanted 3 or 4 kids, but we stopped at two. We started too late to have many more.

I love your prose, and I feel the same about my children, now all in their 40's.

@BettyB It does go by fast, when i look at my children I can't even imagine they are as old as they are...I still feel so young...

@PainsOnSlate I understand. I'm retired but I still feel too young to retire.

Both my boys are tall. They got that from my side of the family. They tower over my husband. He's not short but short compared to them.

Nicely done, Betty. Have you written much poetry before? That is one thing about having babies, they don't stay small very long at all. My babies are 25 and 28, but both girls.

Your poem brought tears to my eyes, Betty. It's so true. Both our sons have grown so quickly and are adults living lives of their own. I feel like a shrimp standing next to them.

When they were in their teens they would laugh when I asked them to get something off the top shelf for me.

Yes, time flies so fast and before you noticed it, children had turned into a big grown man! So young mothers should always treasure their moments with their children.
