I love these stories of women from the past. In 1907 Annette Kellerman was arrested for indecent exposure. She was a professional swimmer and vaudevillian star as well as a business owner and film star. She had decided to wear her one piece suit that she used in her swimming instead of the pantaloons that were excepted as swim wear for women of that time period. A police officer on the beach saw her and she was arrested. After this she designed a one piece body suit for woman and had also authored a swimming manual, helping to popularize the sport of synchronised swimming. Kellerman was the first woman to appear in a Hollywood production in the nude. Throughout her life she was a supporter of fitness, health and natural beauty. I wonder what she would think of our nude beaches of today.

When I see some very old women topless on a beach, I regret that we have not laws against these kind of exposure.

@celticeagle I would like. Some beaches are so crowded that you have to look where you put your feet to not walk on people.

Just checked her bio, Kellerman though daring for that period, but not promiscuous one bit. A wonderful lady.

She believed in what she was doing and was an independent lady.

Interesting. I wonder if men's speedos were allowed sooner than women's one piece suits?

It sounds to me as if she would be one of the first hit the waves. She was a woman ahead of her time.
