I belong to the rewards/points program for a major chain of hotels. Given all the traveling I do for concerts and golf tournaments, I'd be crazy not to! This weekend, with our first tournament, I decided I'd try something new. My hotel's app sends a ping for check-in time, along with room selection and the "digital key." I had to look that one up. A "digital key" is the ability to use your cell phone as your room key. I must say, I've quite enjoyed using the digital key feature. Yes, it has its drawbacks (every time I want to get in my room I have to open the app then click on the digital key feature to enable it), but one of the great benefits is not having to worry about having the cell phone and the room key too close to each other (for all the technological advances, for some reasons hotel card keys can be deactivated by cell phones), because the cell phone is the room key!!! I'll certainly be using this feature more often in the future! Here's the great Steve Goodman song about hotel rooms. Jimmy Buffett covered this song:
