This morning I finally called an antique shop about a china cabinet I have in my living room. I know it is over 50 years old, that's how long ago my mother purchased it. It was supposed to be an antique way back then. Anyway, it is a piece of furniture that I would lie to sell now that I have downsized. I have no attachment to it and neither do my girls. She will be coming later this afternoon to look at it and let me know if it is an antique or just an old piece of furniture. I have however decided to keep an antique sewing machine. I do have memories of spending time with my grandmother sitting there learning how to sew. What's going on with you today?

I know that many things in the apartment of my mother are only old things, even they are over 100 years old, only a few can be considered antiques.

@HazySue I am not sure that I can say with a simple look, I can recognize some antique objects but not all.

Most people don't understand that there is a difference between old things and antiques. I'm not sure I know.

Hopefully, you get a fair price on the cabinet. Good luck! Not much happening to me. My days off are coming so I'm looking to do some cleaning at home and I'd do some working out. Been awhile since I have been to the gym.

@HazySue $700 is still better than $0. Good for you!

I did get some money for it - $700 I don't know if it was fair but it is good enough for me.

I didn't know furniture 50 years old would be antique, mom left us a whole lot of really old stuff, I ought to take some shots and see if they might be worth something.

Some can be considered antiques. I don't know enough about how they discern if the are antiques or not. You should have someone check them out.

I had my grandmother's china cabinet - I always wanted it. When we moved to our last home I wanted a new set - all matching - so gramdmom's had to go. My grandparents bought it new in 1927. I think anything over 50 years is considered antique. I sold mine to a friend at a good price because she wanted it so badly!

I kept a few things and have been slowly getting rid of the rest. If I kept everything I'd have to open up a furniture store.

I hope you can get a good price for it. I was just trying to get Mom's sewing machine to work. Disappointment abounds in that direction.

Is it the one pictured? Did the China cabinet come with Chinaware in it? Sorry I had to ask because some Chinaware is worth more than the cabinet, just a tip, please do keep as updated and hope your appraiser is someone you really trust, good luck.

No to both questions. I do have a tea set that my Uncle brought back from Japan during World War II. It is something I would never let go.

It's a lovely piece! I hope you get some good news! Nothing much happening over here. If I'd get off the computer already, I could probably finish the book I'm reading!

I have so much going on I could write a book about one day. I did the same when I inherited furniture, I sold what I did not want.

Please tell if the cabinet is antique or just old and possible value.

It can be hard to let go of antiques. Right now I just have too many things.
