The Dragon Boat Festival in China is coming soon.In that day,we usually eat zongzi to commemorate Qu Yuan who is a great patriotic poet but killing himself by putting himself into the sea.Zongzi by the glutinous rice, meat, shrimp, mushrooms, eggs and other components. It tastes deliously.Because of the short holiday ,I can't back home to eat it.It's a shame for me.

I can't find the picture of salty zongzi,so use it to instead of it. I also like the zongzi with the shrimp.

The zongzi in your picture looks delicious! Hope you will be able to go home and celebrate it with your family next year. We had some zongzi for the festival too, though we didn't make them ourselves, our neighbor gave some to us.

In fact today we can have zongzi anytime we like. It is just a tradition to have it in the Dragon Boat Festival. As to me, I seldom eat zongzi. It tastes OK but I am not that keen on it. By the way, I can eat both salty or sweet zongzi

Why is it called glutinous rice? What is the difference exactly? I am sorry you cannot go home to eat. What is the meaning of the Dragon Boat Festival?

here, we called it bak chang ( local dialect ) which means meat rice or zhong zi, in chinese the event will be held on 30th may, old folks are great at making homemade dumplings while the younger generations just eat them

That means the craft of making it will be lost in the future. If so,the younger should learn to make it.
