Counsel Of The Years...Things Of Youth...

"Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth." according to the poem "Desiderata". No one can stop the hands of time...time passes by and we grow old...we cannot remain forever young...we learn the lessons of life. Are you taking kindly the counsel of the years? What are the things of youth that you are now gently surrendering?

As you get older you lose the ability to do some things, but there are also gains to be had - more wisdom, less work etc.

Shopping for eight or nine hours straight, health issues, different clothing styles are a few things I've had to gradually change. Old age happens to all of us if we live long enough!

Sometimes I think i should have done more when I was a teen, but it was all study and school. These days I just want my peace and quiet no matter how boring.

Yes you are right---so many things to do but it seems so little time we have.

I am a contrary fellow and will "not go gentle into that good night." (Thomas, Dylan, 1947) I will hold on to whatever youth I can, and surrender nothing, but force time to rip it from my tightly grasping fingers.

@JediYoda Yes, my friend, I must. As George Bernard Shaw once wrote, "Youth is wasted on the young." Now that our sons are grown and on their own, my wife and I have a chance to enjoy the things we missed out on when we were younger because we hadn't yet learned Carpe Diem.

On a Monday morning I feel like a 21 year old but come Friday at 5PM I feel more like a 71 year old! You do slow down as you get older it is inevitable!
