I remember this one hit wonder from youth and had no clue the group was Dutch. Johannes Bouwens founded a band called Soul Invention. They were just a bunch of guys from Hooms, the Netherlands working at a lemonade factory and playing covers of American soul songs. Bouwens decided to change band name adopting “George Baker” after a detective novel character. Written by Jan Visser and Bouwens, “Little Green Bag” was self produced by the band and a surprise international success going gold that astonished them. The title track to their debut album peaked at Billboard #21. There is an assumption the song is about marijuana but was about American money. Original title “Little Greenback” was supposedly erroneously changed to “Little Green Bag” in the US. The band continued European success until breaking up in 1978.

@JohnRoberts -- really? Lucky you, I mean, wow. (I had to endure it, my mom loved it.) It was top 30 pop and top five easy listening/adult contemporary in 1977. Not exactly "Little Green Bag," is it.....
