What projects or activites do you do to keep your young children entertained?

I have 4 children,3 under the age of 4yrs old. It seems that I can't have enough projects or activities to keep them engaged and not getting into trouble. It is very exhausting I appreciate any great ideas that work for you.

I think now a days kids don't get enough time outside to explore and learn on thier own. I know one fun thing my kids always like was playing with a big tub of jello outside in the summertime. I would make big bowls of all different colors and flavors and they had a great time.
