~Update On My Husband~

My husband's back
Valdosta, Georgia
June 3, 2017 8:10pm CST
So my husband went to the hospital tonight. The doctor confirmed for sure it is shingles, which we knew ourselves already. They gave him 2 medications to take. One is called acyclovir and the other one was pain medicine. I'm praying he will feel better soon and be able to sleep tonight. He's staying away from Josiah since he's had this-just in case. The doctor said that's a good idea. The other kids all have their vaccines so she said they will not get it. She also told him to keep a shirt on and keep it covered with a bandage while sleeping in bed because otherwise it could be passed to me. So...that's the info we got and what happened at the hospital. Thanks for praying, all who do. We appreciate it so much and Johnny also said to thank y'all for support & prayers.

@Happy2beme Thank you so do I. He won't be able to get the one he needs tonight because it's $100 to fill so we will have to wait until Monday when he finishes the job. Gosh, life is crazy sometimes.

@LovingMyBabies oh that sucks! My friend had her mouth break out in canker sores when she had chemo and they gave her that to stop it. It was a life saver for her!

I will pray. I thought only older people got shingles. Can you get a shot for it. You do not need to get it.

@jstory07 Thank you for praying. Nope anyone with a low immune system and a lot of stress can get the shingles, if they have had chicken pox. The vaccine is only for people 50 or 60 years old, can't remember which age.

Hope all goes well with the medication he was given @LovingMyBabies Life is just one thing after another, isn't it? According to the CDC, there are only specific instances where a person with shingles can spread anything: Not sure if we are allowed to share this here, but the following is from the CDC.gov site

I hope the pain medication works to give him some relief so he can get some sleep. What part of the body does he have the Shingles on?

@LovingMyBabies Ouch! Well, at least he should be able to lay on his left or right side to sleep! Does it hurt him when he's wearing a shirt? My doctor told me that was my one advantage of having Shingles on my head, in that I didn't have it anywhere where my clothes rubbed against the blisters/sores.

@moffittjc Yeah he can lay on his side thank God. Yes it hurts when his shirt sits on it or when he's sitting to drive he has to sit not leaning on the seat. =(

Hubby has had shingles...on his face. Grandson had shingles at 13 years old. Hope your hubby feels better and got a good nights sleep.

@MorleyHunt The first time that I got the shingles was 5 years ago, and it was on my cheek. They worried that they may go into my eye, which wouldn't end well, but instead it went back behind my ear into my hairline. And it was during the heat of summer, and of course I needed a haircut so I was house-bound with the a/c until it cleared and I could get a trim.

@Morleyhunt What a coincidence, I have psoriasis that's developed on and off since my last bout of the shingles. Fun fun!

@Juliaacv my husbands was on his forehead to slightly beside his eye...the eye was also a concern. He has no hair to try to hide it behind. Thank goodness it cleared up quickly. Many years ago he had a psoriasis flare up that was incapacitating. Poor guy...he has had his issues.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I've heard how painful shingles can be. I had a vaccine last year, as soon as I could find someone who would accept my insurance. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I hope he heals soon and that you don't get this!

@CRK109 Thank you. Yeah he's been in a lot of pain but last night was much better since he had the pain meds. They won't give the vaccine to anyone younger than 60. Thank you for the prayers! =)

It sounds like he got some good advise at the hospital. You be strong, and I know that you have a lot more on your plate as a result of him having this. I never found the pain medication to do anything except cause me to sleep for hours and days on end, and I felt that it actually prolonged my shingles. That could have been a coincidence or it could have been just me. Try to keep him comfortable, I never took anything stronger then advil, and I will continue to pray for him.

That's very odd, I did research on shingles when I had hives and thought it was shingles. He is very young to get shingles. Mostly people over 50 get it and there are other risk factors such as medications or cancer/cancer treatment. From what I understand it takes a long time for it to clear up.

So sorry to hear about the severity of your husbands shingles. I had them myself and took 2 months to recover. I hope it does not take him that long. Mine was located over my eye and caused me to have double vision for a time. It's a horrible stress related disease which is so painful. Also prescribed the same medication so it should ease his symptoms. There's a great song by the spiritual Beatle's guitarist George Harrison titled "All Things Must Pass." I hope this is the case for your husband and your family.
