Just Kidding Around

We’ve been in Ireland almost a week now but it’s been pretty hectic and not always easy to log on. AND I have many, many negotiations to reply to but I’ll get there. We’ve had a few hiccups with getting our motor-home registered but it’s up and running now. We’ve been able to make the acquaintance of our son’s four kids which has been delightful. They are actually goat kids before you start wondering how come we haven’t met them before. They are just gorgeous little things and great time-wasters. Damian has made them a playground of sorts with planks to walk on and a sheet of plywood propped against the wall. At barely a fortnight old they love to jump up the plywood and slide down. We’ve been to the Tattersalls’ Horse Trials at Fairyhouse (don’t the Irish have great names?) but I’ll write about that another time.

I loved playing with kids when I was a child. My grandparents had a goat and that meant that occasionally there were also kids. It's so cute when they jump up with all four legs in the air.

These are 'bouncing' all over the place. They are just so cute. You can't help loving them. I had a goat as a pet when I was a child and she was just the most wonderful companion.

Sweet photo, your son has obviously inherited your love of animals. I can't help wondering why he made his home in Ireland, but I'm not actually asking

I am a bit surprised at how committed he is to their welfare although he has always been kind and caring. Damian is a jazz musician and plays bass. He would never have had the same opportunities in Australia and especially not in Western Australia. However Ireland's gain is certainly very much our loss. His wife has a lot of issues and won't fly so it's difficult for him to visit us. However we're getting to the stage where the trip will soon be beyond us too. However I guess things are evolving as they are meant to.

It seems you will have a wonderful summer in Ireland. Now you can avoid the winter. How nice it is! When it is winter in Ireland, then you come back to Australia

That's all very true but at the moment summer in Ireland hasn't been very fine or very warm. But I'm sure it will improve.

@minx267 Welet them out regularly into a bigger paddock. Yesterday we sat on chairs while the Mums fed around us and the little ones took turns jumping onto our laps and having cuddles.

In Ireland, old vehicles get tested every twelve months and the van hasn't really been used since 2015 so it's been a bit tricky.

Sounds like a wonderful visit. We used to have goats and I kind of miss them. When my twins were born we had to give them away to make time for the dr visits.

These are great time-wasters too and it actually costs quite a bit in feed for them too but we don't say anything. It's not our business really.

@JudyEv I gave up traveling long distances. My last flying trip was not easy on me, so I have decided that I will not put myself through that again. Even short trips are not easy any more.

The time goes quickly doesn't it? We are in Loughcrew at the moment and can see 18 counties (so they say) from the top of the megalithic tomb which is here.

I love goats. Do they head butt each other for entertainment? I find that they like to be scratched near their horns, and also on their butts.

I guess little ones head butt to develop muscles and older ones to establish supremacy. They have a definite pecking order. One of the four kids is particularly affectionate and often climbs into your lap for a cuddle. They make great pets. Mine would shake hands, bow and roll a barrel. She was a great companion.

Although I love these kids they are already going through the bars of the gate and running riot so I don't think I'll be getting a playmate for Herc.
