I was so upset last Thursday after the car salesman fiasco that I forgot to report my golf prowess. (Ha.) Nobody wanted to win (we played the hardest course last week), but I came in second. I was paired with the 1968 national champion, which is always a thrill. So before I head for the land of mini golf here's the next song on my list of favorites with "take" in the title....and maybe a surprise, because this is the first time I've ever used this band.
#6: Take Your Time - Jefferson Starship
And there's a reason I've never used them. I'm not a big fan of any incarnation. And, frankly, there are songs by them that I downright dislike vehemently (such as "Miracles," and sheesh, who doesn't hate "We Built This Shi....er....City"?). The exception is their 1978 album Earth, which contained their big hit "Count on Me."
"Take Your Time" was never released as a single, but I always greatly enjoyed it. It was my favorite song from the album (still is, honestly). As I said, I'm not a big fan, but this is a good indication of just what a powerhouse singer Grace Slick is. She contrasts the moods of people between mellow and fast-living ("time doesn't sit down and wait while I'm trying to get it done, but you're not me, thank God, you can take your time slowly") and the fact that she has to go break-neck speed ("You say it'll take you a year, I say it'll just take me a second"). That's okay: "there's room for both of us."
I've loved this song since I first heard it on the album. Not what you'd expect from me...probably not what you'd expect from Jefferson Starship, either. Maybe that's why I love it.

And Jefferson Starship finally makes a countdown. I've got them ready to go in a future one, though. Mickey Thomas era.

@FourWalls - No, I do like some of their songs. As long as it has "Jefferson" before "Starship." Not my favorite band by any means, but I like some of it.
