Subsequent to my discussion regarding using other people's pictures on the Internet, meet Rhombus....
He was abandoned by people living behind us at 8 months. Up until then he was raised primarily on dog pellets, which resulted in UTI infections, couple of stays in hospital and a special diet.
He lost his eye due to numerous eye infections which did not respond well to treatment. the day after losing his eye he caught his first bird. A proud cat.
Now at 7, he's an absolute darling, best friend of labrador and while he's cost us millions, worth every cent.
Ok, to be honest, not millions, we are blessed with an extremely kind vet who loves him to bits and charges us special rates.
I would love to hear others experiences.

@Rhombus sadly our shelter 'tis a 3 day sorta place'n 'fter that, the critters're put to sleep. i reckon folks figure they've better odds out here'n the country?? i find such more inhumane, 's many get hit by cars/trucks. i truly feel fer the elderly pets...if'n they cannot keep such, they should 't least 've 'em humanely euthanized. we'd a blind pup dropped out here once. the vet figured him to be 'bout 11 years ol'. his teeth were rotten 'n he 'twas severely o'erweight. we got his health back 'n he lived a happy life fer 'bout 4 more years. 'twas a good pup, bless his soul.

@crazyhorseladycx I can see why the shelters would be avoided.... Three days is a hit harsh, with some pets possibly just lost. Bless you for looking after that dog, even if it had been in a shelter unlikely it would be adopted. ?

My grandparents had a rescue dog - it had been thrown out of a moving train as a pup - it had 15 happy years with them

Awww, what a sweetie @Rhombus . He looks like a stray feral cat that shows up at my place often. I have 13 cats, so I know what those vet bills can look like.

@Rhombus I have 5 of them in my master bedroom; 5 in a guest room and 3 run the rest of the house simply because they can't all get along. Yes a cat can die in a fight. All it takes is a bite or claw at the throat where the main veins are.

@Rhombus Yeah, sometimes even neutered males think they rule the world.

@nanette64 your home sounds lovely, having all those cats to snuggle with.
Re: the fights, they sound so terrifying, I can't bear it. It's not like my silly cat retreats either.
At least now I know worst case scenario.

What a cute kitty! It's unbelievable to me how people can mistreat and abandon animals. They're not toys, or inanimate objects to just treat however and then leave behind or dispose of. I just don't get how people can do that. I'm glad Rhombus has a better life now!

We have pets at home, one cat and two dogs and my kids are taking care of them.
It's my youngest son who takes more responsibility with our pets, he feeds, bath and play with them everyday.

Aw he is a lovely cat, so glad you rescued him.
I love his name too.
I have not rescued any cats, but did get a dog from the shelter years ago. I miss her now her name was Sally.
