Mother in-law = Monster in-law?

No offence please. Like everyday I was only reading the newspaper when I read about a news where a mother in-law tortured her daughter in-law so much that the poor women committed suicide. And its just been two years of her marriage. I wondered why the so called monsters do it at the first place. If they had so much of problems they shouldnt let their sons marry. And on top of it in some cases the boy also take full part in this torturing-the-bride process. Its very sad and disheartening. No wonder why some girls prefer to stay single and independent. Thats for sure I am not going to be a Monster in-law for some girl. What about you?

It could easily be the other way round where the daughter in laws make the life of their ailing and frail mother in laws miserable. I feel that it is a feeling of insecurity that makes some mother in laws behave in such a manner ..I had a very good mother in law and my own daughter in law is a wonderful person. What matters to me most is the fact that she loves my son and makes him happy ..

@Blushandglow it could be that ..it also has a lot to do with mutual communication. I did face some problems with my mother in law in the beginning but later once I got to know her better I realized that she was open to suggestions and was very kind.

Thats true in some cases daughter in laws are the real monsters. But that's still rare. You have been lucky to have a loving m in-law and daughter in-law. But you know what I think you are yourself a good mother in law because your m in law was good to you. So your daughter in law is good as well. Its like a chain reaction.

@kiran8 it was really good for you that you both could keep the communication on. But the best part was that she was open to your suggestions and did not feel offended like most of the m in laws.

That's really sad. Mother in law's should change, and think of their daughter s who are also going to some others house.

And thats the funny part. You might have read many jokes on this as well. Mothers want their daughter to live a carefree comfortable life but at the same time they dont want the same for their daughter in-law. What's ok in case of their daughter is definately never ok when it comes to daughter in-law. Really...!!

@Blushandglow Most mother-in-laws don't let their daughter-in-laws do anything in the house.

@Shavkat Do anything in the house..?? What are you talking about? Must be joking. If you ask me most M-in-laws would go to any length to make their d-in-laws work 24*7 in the house.

And there is a very solid reason behind calling them by this name. They actually act like monsters once they get hold of their d-in-laws. Just want them to suffer, never let the poor girl live in peace and stay happy.

here in my place, I know a lot of moms who are hot tempered with their daughter-in-laws... it is the man's responsibility to take care of both so it is best for him to move out from his parents and live separately with his partner and build his own home for his own family.. conflicts most of the time happens when the couple stays with one of the party's parents..

Same is the case in my neighbourhood. Most of the mother in-laws dont want their sons to move out so as to keep controlling their life and if the son even tries they create an emotional scene making the son feel bad about it. Overall this whole in-laws thing sucks. Very rarely I have seen a mom in-law and a daughter in-law sharing a good relationship.
