Ban of Unlimited Rice

Philippines

There has been a huge negative social media reaction from this certain Senator who wanted to ban the promo of unlimited rice or stalls. She claimed too much rice could cause terrible diabetic disease. A lot actually got ANGRY because the poor Filipinos can't afford to buy veggies and sometimes they don't have time to be choosy with foods. I remember back in my High-school or College days I used to have at least two rice per meal, got my college friend who eats like four to five rices. That was the only moment in my life that I got to afford extra rice In my point of view, they should support more farmers and promote organic products like the one I used to work for back in 2006. Unfortunately, the organization died out, simply because organic was too expensive to ordinary people. They should just also promote simple exercise more to the regular people. This broadcaster mainly stating that the people should let the people decide. And suggested to simply promote awareness campaign instead. I had to experience the uric acid just to get myself involved into seriously eating fruits and vegetables.

I find this bill too shallow. Even if you ban unlimited rice, the people will also eat as much as they could.

i am for this directive, although i believe the senator will not pass a law about the removal of unlimited rice to food chains.

Well, she may have said it out of opinion, but if people don't criticize it or they might actually make it into a law @ridingbet

@Letranknight2015 i heard her say she won't pass a bill for that, and she also said it will be up to the DOH to inform the public about the ill effects of unlimited rice.

Yah, now memes are flooding about this issue hehehe. I am not against unlimited rice promo and besides, health is about personal discipline and unlimited rice has nothing to do with diabetes coz diabetes is not mainly acquired from eating rice alone.

@ridingbet exactly , but rice is not mainly the source of carbo too. What causes diabetes is unhealthy food and unbalanced diet. Yah, rice could be one of the big contributor.

Hello @jaiho2009 I have seen some memes in youtube, probably compiled together. I agree it's a personal discipline for every one and should not be enforce by the Government.

when carbohydrates is not used as energy, then a person will possibly have diabetes. it is not always about eating sweets that cause diabetes.

I like Rice but I donĀ“t eat boat loads of it. I eat a lot of greens and salad and I prefer a salad above all. Think their idea is silly. You can warn people no to eat too much of anything as too much is never good but we all have enough to put up with already.

@Letranknight2015 I know what you mean a bit of salt on the tomatoes themselves and I am made. As a kid I would love to eat tomato with a bit of salt on it yum.

Hello @lovinangelsinstead21 It's rare for me to eat salad these days and I've had it with the olive oil. It's hard to have a dressing that suits my taste.

All this problems are arising due to lack of exercise to the body. Simply eating rice three times a day doesn't cause any diseases. In that case forefathers generation people used to eat only rice a d they never had any problem, yes of course they used to do lots of physical work , that's the reason. Today our generation just lack that physical activity. And we use more of polished rice which is bad

Hello @prashu228 I think it's because of the digital age, people are mostly depending on their respective phones. Back in the early 90s we used to small collection cards to play.

I think it is unreasonable. They need to study first before passing a bill.

@Letranknight2015 It is @Letranknight2015 and this is not a problem that needs to focus on. There is still a war going on in the south.

She did clarify her statement afterwards. Still, it was an insensitive thing to say considering that rice is the staple food of Filipinos both poor and rich alike.

@Letranknight2015 instead what we should do is to educate everyone about steps to take to minimize if not totally eradicate rice wastage.

Hello @allen0187 I agree that rice is a staple for the filipinos. It's not fair to limit consumption, it would be bad for the rice dealers as well.

I cannot understand why our Senators are doing laws like that. There are more important things that need to be given attention too.

@Letranknight2015 That's much better. Just this day I saw a facebook post about plastic or fake rice which I think is pretty alarming.

Hello @annierose turns out it was just a comment but that's something she should focus. Though she could have recommended the President for the rice campaign awareness.

I stopped eating rice because of cauliflower rice and cricket flour but I know how addictive rice is for Filipinos and Filipinos will experience withdrawal without it. Unlirice is very important to clue collar workers who have very physical jobs.

It is a good advice but she can not impose it on people; specially the poor or busy ones who could not afford costly meals; rice is a staple food and young people depend on it for their energy; at least they should burn it later with exercise or moving a lot.
