Good evening!! It's been a fun day, driving up and practicing for the tournaments this weekend. We have two tomorrow and one on Sunday. I'm all cleaned up, having washed all the heat, humidity, and suntan lotion off, and I'm ready to bring you the next song on my list of favorite songs with a number in the title. This idea was started by @teamfreak16 -- and in all the time we've run concurrent themes, this is only the second time we've ever matched. #3: Driver 8 - R.E.M. The other time we matched was on an Elvis Costello song, so it's obvious we both have outstanding taste. When I was 18 I got my first car. I decided I'd name it, and all subsequent cars, after music. Two years ago I got my eighth car, so in honor of it being car #8, I named it Driver 8. And why not? This is one of my favorite R.E.M. songs. It has good energy, with Bill Berry's cymbal playing in the chorus resembling a train bell. It quickly became the standout on that album when I first heard it. All these years later, my piddly tribute to one of my favorite songs by R.E.M. is in the name of my car. The car's a gem....just like the song. Driver 8 Written by Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Michael Stipe Recorded by R.E.M. From Fables of the Reconstruction, 1985 And the train conductor says:
Exclusive live performance July 1984,from I.R.S. Records "The Cutting Edge"
