You don't have The Horse to kick around any more

Are you old enough to know who I'm misquoting? Actually, I'm not old enough either, but my dad told me about this famous quotation from 1962, when ******* ***** lost in the race for California Governor race to *** *****. Anyway, you won't have The Horse to kick around for two days because I'll be up at Grass Valley CA, sans technology, playing bluegrass music with friends, and maybe taking in an act or two. I'm not even sure who is playing. It's 95 degrees here (in the Bay Area), and it's supposed to be in the 90s up there tomorrow, and in the 70s at night, so jamming shouldn't be a problem. I've packed up some Gatorade and will pick up some Scotch on the way. Those of you who know me well might be able to guess which guitar I'm bringing. I bought it specifically for events like this. How's the weather where you are? I'm melting right now.

I am old enough to remember this quote in 1974 "you don't have Nixon to kick around any more, because, gentlemen, this is my last press conference...." We are also in the mid 90 F today and it is too hot to plan to go outside, at least not until the sun sets down.

32 degrees is nothing compared to 43 to 45 degrees we experience in March, April, May...we get 32 degrees in February.. I told you...your peak summers have temperatures we experience in our winters. So nothing would happen to me there...just enjoy yourself..

@TheHorse .. Actually, there are beautiful hill stations in India which have climates closer to your place. Temperatures in winters do dip to 0 degrees C there. I am in this city because of my job and well, you get habituated to certain facilities...and there is natural resistance to relocate I suppose. lol. Yes ..my city Hyderabad would be very tough for you to withstand. But if you chose to settle down in places like Ooty, Mahabaleshwar, Manali, Kulu, Darjeeling, you would be comfortable...in Kulu Manali they get snow as well. Ooty gets snow sometimes...Mahabaleshwar however does not and there are lots of earthquakes. Darjeeling is tea gardens slopes ...Munnar is a beautiful place, so is Kodaikanal. I would have bought me a single bedroom in Ooty and lived there till 70+ before shifting back to old age home.

My Filipino friend was just over. He says 100 F is just too hot for him. I'm not sure if I could live in India.

I'd bet you're a better musician than Nixon was. And you could do "You Ain't Gonna Have Ol' Buck to Kick Around No More" in honor of being away from us. Scotch and Gatorade? Interesting mixed drink.

It looks like a classic guitar, but I see the nob on the end to plug it in. Enjoy the two days of music jamming.

Oh, that's just a strap peg. This is a Martin D-18 and has no electronics. It's a steel string acoustic. That's me on the right, chuckling at Ric's stories between songs.

@TheHorse It's a great looking guitar and you don't need to worry about taking it anywhere if it doesn't have electronics. Just start strumming.

@just4him Exactly. I bought it specifically because it's loud and good and works both at home and at non-amplified "jam parties." I use my little Collings (equally good but smaller and with electronics) for gigs.

Gonna be 102 here, 108 tomorrow. UGH. And just let me whine further, I pulled a muscle in my back and what with the hardware in there it's really bad. I'm mildly stoned but in pain anyway. I hope you have a great time in Grass Valley, Horse Human! And of course you know I remember the quote.

Dang it, keep takin' them stoner pills and I hope you feel better. My Paradise brother from another mother was there and we jammed last night. So was his girlfriend , Carol, who works at one of the Antique stores in Paradise. She and I did Townes's Pancho and Lefty last night. I think I drank most of the gin she had in her Gatorade bottle. 'Nuff said.

Here's another one by James King. I met him a few years ago up at Grass Valley. I forgot my credit card at the booth after his show, and he gave me the CD and said bring back the money later. He was that kind of guy. He was known for getting choked up while singing. It happens at the end of Bed by the Window, which my Paradise buddy does.
James King's Biggest Hit. From Everett's Music Barn.

@TheHorse The question is why is it hotter at my place? What would be in the ground to increase the temp by 10 to 15 degrees ?

I made it home alive and barely got to our gig at the old folks home. It's 100 degrees F out right now, so I'm hiding inside. I may hit the pool. The guitar in the photo is a modern Martin D-18, a really nice mahogany guitar.

@TheHorse All my sons are musical. They've played instruments since they were kids. But they all play guitar. They tried to teach me to play but my fingers are too short. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I've no idea who said it but I'm useless at stuff like that and 1962 was before my time as well!! I hope you enjoy your trip and your bluegrass jam! I quite like some of the bluegrass stuff thanks to John Wheeler, Dale and Don Wayne Reno of Hayseed Dixie visiting us many times in the past!

@TheHorse Nice track! The guys I know played rock tracks on mandolin, banjo and guitar in Bluegrass style! They were all traditional bluegrass musicians so we heard a few bluegrass jams and they gave us a few CDs of their original stuff as well.
