Father's Day isn't the same any longer

United States
June 18, 2017 6:57am CST
I am my father's daughter and according to my mother I was from day one. I am just like him in looks and other ways. He did pass on to me many important things, like handling money, work ethic, cooking (my mom didn't cook!) and how to do vegetable gardening. The last Father's Day I celebrated was in 2009, my father died three months later. It is hard to believe it has been 8 years. I won't get all sentimental, I deal with things like this quietly and not publicly. For those of you who still have your dad's, be sure to celebrate with him. Photo is mine.

I never knew my father, but a child we celebrated Father's Day with grandpas and uncles. Today we will be celebrating Father's Day with our sons. I'm really looking forward to it.

It is a sad day on Father's Day when we can no longer celebrate it.

I have also been my father's daughter since day one. I love my Mom, but it's not the same special relationship that I had with my father. It's a very long time that he has gone. The last father day I celebrated with him was in 1976. He was too young to go, I miss him every day.

@AbbyGreenhill Yes, it's a very long time that my Mom is alone. She always said she would have never found another man like my father. I fully agree.

He did die a long time ago, 40 years and that's a long time for your mom to be w/o him.

I wish I could celebrate with my Dad @AbbyGreenhill . He lives in Iowa and has Alzheimer's. I tried to call him this morning but the phone just rang. I called his wife's cell and it said, "The mailbox you are calling is full." Oh great!!!!!

Before we moved to TN 17 years ago I lived two miles from my parents so I saw them often. Once we moved we only traveles back to NJ twice a year.

When I was in high school my friends would beg to cover for dinner, they said not only was my father a good cook but he was so good looking (and he was!)
