Just Some Of What Has Been Going On

I want to start this discussion off with thanking all of you for the warm welcome back. It sure makes a heart feel good to know they were missed. I thought I would share just a little bit of what has been going on with us. We really had a scare with my brother. He had found out that he had bronchitis, pleurisy and walking pneumonia. He had to have 4 rounds of antibiotics before it finally went away. After all of that, he was admitted to the hospital because of an abnormal ekg. They did a heart cath and we received some news we weren't really prepared for. At the bottom of the heart is an artery that is very small. That artery is clogged 100% and they cannot do any kind of surgery on it because it is too small. The one good thing about it is his body has sprouted veins that is helping the blood flow but it is not quite the same as if the artery was working. He still has chest pain if he does too much because the blood flows a lot slower. He did have 30% blockage in his other arteries but the doctor wasn't really worried about that right now. My brother has been having a hard time dealing with the fact that he can't do some of the things he used to do. But, I'm sure he will deal with it eventually as I have done. Sometimes it really sucks to get older. I hope all of you have a great day today and a wonderful week!

I'm so sorry about your brother's health problems. I know it's hard to adjust to doing less or doing everything differently. But he's not gonna want the pain, for sure. You have a good day, too!

It is hard to do but he is slowly learning from it. There are still days when he does too much and he pays for it afterward.

Well that wasn't the best news but not the worst either and yes, it sucks to get old. I guess that is why we get old cause we are strong.

@simone10 These days wth the exercise that we do, I have never felt stronger. Even when I was young I was never into regular exercise like I am now.

I agree, it's not the worst news but it was unexpected. I'm just glad that he doesn't have to have any kind of surgery right now. I do feel stronger the older I get.

What a bummer. I hope he can do something to help himself like maybe slowing down a little, wouldn't that help him?

Yes, slowing down would help him but he is hardheaded at times. He will learn just like I did.

I can understand that your brother is concerned and unhappy, but it is better to slow down when we have health problems. I am glad to know that you both are fine now.

I agree it's better to slow down but when it first hits us, it's really hard to do. I felt that way for years but have finally accepted it.

bless his heart 'n yers. i'd feared he'd not gotten well 'n such the reason fer yer absence. funny the doc's aint worried 'bout his 30%?? since he's already limited. there's medications 'n naturopathic schtuff to help unclog those suckers. wonder if'n such'd work'n the wee one? yer correct, comin' to terms with out limitations aint much fun. sendin' healin' hugs!

I know, I am concerned about the 30% because it will eventually get worse. It runs in our family. I really thought he would have used a balloon or something while he did the heart cath. He had said he would if it needed to be done. I guess things have changed over the years. It took him months to get over all of his illnesses because he had let it go so long and the infection was really bad.

Yes, it really is rotten and so hard to deal with. I think sometimes it's harder for men than it is for women. Men think they have to be so strong.

Thanks! It really feels good to be back again....kind of like going home. If my brother does the things he is supposed to do, he will be okay. But, we all know how hard that can be at times.

Like you, it was hard for me at first too. It has taken years for me to accept that I can't do what I used to but there are still times when I am feeling bad and it bothers me.

Happy to see that you are back again. I'm so very sorry that your brother is battling with such extreme health issues. That must be quite scary, but I hope that his doctor can get him squared away.

Thank you, it feels so good to be back again. It has been very scary for me and we both have been stressed over it. He has a really good cardiologist so he is in good hands.

There are many things we can do to improve our health and these are especially important as we get older. Hope there is a solution for his issues soon @simone10

He needs to exercise more, stop smoking and lose about 40 pounds. We both need to do this and have decided to take it all more seriously now.

He is feeling better and is slowly learning that he can't do as much as he used to. It's really hard on him that he is only 48.

I'm sorry to hear that. My grandmother had a hard time coping with not being able to do too much after her hip surgery 3 years ago.. she still does.

I have been that way also. It took me several years to accept it and even now, I still have my moments. It's not an easy thing to do.

I am sorry your brother is going through this. I helped my sister with a lot of appointments for a while. Now hubby has found out that he is not superman, and his health conditions are worrying him. So glad you are back.
