Dad

This isn't the oldest picture I have of myself or of my dad, but it's the oldest one I have of me with us together. I'm in my grandma's kitchen, dressed in my Halloween costume.
Dad is in his late 70s now. I don't get to see him very often, as we live on opposite sides of the country, but I did talk to him yesterday for Father's Day.
He was the 3rd of 4 boys and lost a brother in the Korean War when he was 12. He met my mom when they went to the same high school and gave up an engineering scholarship to a university so he could go to the university that she was attending. He became a professor of zoology and parasitology, so passing up on that engineering degree seems to have been a good choice!

I had a high school science class in parasitology, and it was fascinating!!! Does your dad enjoy the subject?

He does. He's done a lot of research on Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and toxoplasmosis.

Holy cow. That's an awesome degree to get.
I didn't get to talk to my dad yesterday, which isn't anything new- but I at least reached out to him and said happy fathers day.
