Since we had power outage from 8am to 6pm, my son and I went to the hospital to collect money from somebody. It took us about half an hour to receive the money, then later, I asked my son if he wanted to take snacks in an air conditioned canteen (because it was so hot). "Yes, ma", he replied so off we walked going to the canteen. The A/C was not so cool but it was okey. I had ham and cheese sandwich while my son had spaghetti. I ordered a can of coke; my son had a can of sprite. When my son opened his sprite in can, he inserted his straw in this small hole at the flip of the can and he uttered, "straw holder". I didn't believe him at first but he told me that I can search that on Google. I smiled. Indeed that is the use of that small hole at the flip of the can. Now I know. Another knowledge gained from my son. Do you use that hole as straw- holder when you drink a soda in can?

It's not designed to hold a straw but it seems that young people use it for this purpose. I never buy sodas.

@ridingbet No, not straw dispenser but straw holder, I know that they use it for this, but it was not made for this purpose.

some lipsticked women use a straw to drink or sip anything, because they do not want their lipstick to get smudged. hahaha!

@crazyhorseladycx and when the lipstick gets out of its place, they have the lip gloss to fix it.

Thats a straw holder indeed. I read that somewhere. There was a complete list of items and the.article stated how we were wrongly using them

@ridingbet An example is that some people have been struggling to get tic tacs out of the container. The easier way to get it out is to glide it to the oval shaped compartment found at top of the container.

Another example is that in pots there is a "hole" in the handle. The purpose of it is to hold your spatula.

I never wondered about the name of it @ridingbet , and just always placed my straw there to stop it from sliding round and round the can. But now I too know it is a straw holder

hahaha! nice of you my friend because you use that hole to keep the straw from moving around. for me, i will now use that hole to 'stabilize' my straw.

That was a great moment for a mother and son in the not so cool restaurant. Anyway, its also my first time to know that hole thing the beverages can is straw holder, ha ha, I thought that was only intended in pulling up and flip to open the can.

Yes, that's a straw holder. I also used to pull the whole thing off because I don't use straw to drink from the can. But these days, using a straw to drink from this can drink so, I've learned the use of it.

any hole in a can or any container, i believe has its uses. you can just check on the other images posted in this discussion, and you will notice that indeed, these holes have their purposes.

@ridingbet Don't drink soda at all. I drink iced tea from a glass usually or water directly from a bottle if I buy it in a machine.

the flip of a canned good has a bigger hole. when i jokingly told my son that a cannoed good needs a straw, he remarked that the hole is for the index finger to pull the lid off. i laughed when i mentioned my reason to him.
