Something Old Now Something New

This is a rug i crocheted using old t shirts."How did you do that ?" you ask. I cut each t shirt by hand, This is a very time consuming process. I start with t shirts that have no seams. First I cut out the t shirts mid sections. Then working in a spiral, i cut around the t shirt in a continuous strip about as wide as my thumb. After all the cutting is done, i stretch it until it rolls up on itself creating a "yarn" I use cotton t shirts as this works best. I then crocheted the rug. I don't join with knots. I just add a new piece by crocheting over the last couple of inches of the previous one (makes it a little thicker this way too).

That's creative of you
I like to crochet too when I have more time, and this is a good idea to recreate old shirts

For a while there I thought you're getting married or something!
That is a very good piece. It's even more special knowing that it's made by hand. You have such a creative eye and patient hand to be able to accomplish something like this.

Thank you. The prep work takes the longest. I would say a few days of cutting the fabric, then a day to crochet it.

You're welcome. Just make sure to use sharp scissors as not to give yourself a blister like i did.

Thank you. Actually i buy the shirts from my local thrift store. The sales help towards helping the homeless and less fortunate, so it's a win-win.

It's not too late. There's so many how to videos you can watch on you tube. I still watch to learn new stitches.

@Debscrochet That's a good idea. I know I have my mother in law's crochet hooks and knitting needles in the attic. I will take a look, but I'm all thumbs. lol
