So suddenly- Goodbye Friend

I learned on Wednesday that a friend of mine had recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukemia and was not doing well at all. She passed away in the wee hours of Thursday morning, less than two weeks after her diagnosis. Her family is obviously in shock, as we all are. Judy and I had bowled in the same women's league for the past 6 years. We were acquaintances first, but we became friends when we ended up on the same team for the last two years. She was 80 years old, but seemed much younger! She was inspirational to me, because she was so active and young-at-heart. "Judy-Judy-Judy!", as we often called her, was caring, funny, and friendly. I will really miss her! The last time I saw her was April 26th, which was the final day of our bowling league season. As we team members parted ways that day, we all gave friendly hugs, saying "Have a great summer, see you here in August!" I'm sad, but I'm also grateful. I'm thankful that Judy lived a relatively long life. I think it's a blessing that she didn't suffer terribly for months and years, as many cancer patients do. And I'm so happy that I got to enjoy some great conversations, team camaraderie, and a few laughs with such a wonderful person! I've been reminded again that we shouldn't take any of our relationships for granted. We truly DON'T know what tomorrow holds, for any of us.

It is sad to hear that. I lost my best friend due to leukemia at the age of 12.

That is for certain. It is always a shock to lose a friend, especially so suddenly. I am glad though that it was not a lingering illness.
