A good day for baking bread

It's a good day for baking bread. It is cloudy with intermittent rain outside so since I am stuck inside, it's baking time. Lately I have been baking my own bread. Fresh out of the oven, I always take the first slice, spread margarine on it while still hot. Yummy! Do you bake bread and how do you like to eat your bread? Image is mine @Freelanzer

I would love a slice of that right now - with marmalade or peanut butter.

My grandmother used to have a baking day when she baked several loafs of her delicious bread and even biscuits on occasion. My uncle would quite often pick that particular day to come over for a visit. He would have a huge slice with real butter and some honey. So yummy!

My mom did that too and her mother before her. I can remember seeing all the fresh bread coming out of a large outdoor wood burning oven my grandma had. It was the best bread.

@Freelanzer it was a bit sticky and the taste was not that good. I think that buying it is the best option

If you are eating gluten free it is probably best to buy it. I don't think I would have too much success baking that type of bread.

I used to make my own bread but I haven't done it in years. I did, however, bake a strawberry rhubarb cake yesterday.

These days, the bread machine is used to knead and prove the dough for the base of pizza, when I am in that frame of mind. We prefer the assortment of fresh crusty rolls and loaves available in our local Lidl store, it works out to be cheaper. Your loaves look delicious!

@Freelanzer When you compare any recipe for home-made bread with the ingredients panel on a store-bought loaf, it is scary...

Thanks. I never compared the price but I never like store bought bread it always tastes like paper to me, but the rest of the family don't mind it. I am also concerned about ingredients I can't pronounce that is found in some breads.

It's been a while since I baked bread, but I can smell that wonderful fresh out of the oven loaf of bread, and taste the soft butter smathered first slice. Mm mm good. Enjoy your bread. My mouth is watering.

I help make Challah on Fridays at the preschool, but I rarely bake at home. Can you send some of the aroma my way once it's in the oven?

I wish I could share the pleasure with you and others out there. Reminds me of baking bread during an open house. My realtor advised me that the aroma would help sell the house. Not sure if it worked.
